Aadhaar Number (Aadhaar)

  • Overview: Aadhaar is a unique 12-digit identification number issued by the Indian government to residents, including NRIs. It is essential for KYC, verification, identification, and implementing various government schemes.

  • Linking PAN and Aadhaar: The Income Tax Department mandates linking PAN and Aadhaar numbers for filing Indian tax returns.

  • Eligibility: Anyone residing in India for more than six months continuously can apply for an Aadhaar card. It serves as proof of identification rather than citizenship, so OCI holders, who are not Indian citizens, can also apply for an Aadhaar card.
